It’s June 12th yall, and with summer quickly approaching, I can’t pass up a good day of waterfalling.
This morning started off with fog filling the valleys and a light sprinkle outside with a temperate of 65 degrees. You couldn’t ask for better weather in the Ozarks in the middle of June, so I was simply itching to get outside and hike.
When work died down for the day, I grabbed my gear and hit the door with one spot in mind: Mill Creek.
This creek is like an old friend of mine, I’ve been visiting it for twenty years now and over that time I’ve never noticed much sign of traffic. It still seems to be one of those few places that people simply don’t go.
That might be because of the difficulty getting there or that it’s a medium bushwhack.
Over the years I’ve bent branches into this spot and am slowly getting a trail worn in; it’s gonna be an easy bushwhack before ya know it.
The road to get there, however, is pretty rutted, bumpy, practically a creek at one point, and literally a creek at another. Either way you approach the parking for this falls you’ll want at least some clearance, but 4WD or AWD is recommended.
The hiking itself was pretty breezy today; like I said before, the temperature was just perfect. This entire hike, save half of the trip back, was in a slight drizzle and at one point I hid below a bluff-line during a downpour. Which made for a pretty moody photo.
There were no gotchas on this trip, there were a few new down trees to navigate through and around, but everything else was easy going.
Overall, I am super stoked to get out today and visit this old friend. I’m at a loss at how many times I’ve visited mill creek, and I’m sure there are many more trips to come.
